Greeting from the Chair 2026

My name is Muskan, and as Chair of SoSA ry, I welcome you to LUT University, Lahti, Finland, for the academic year of 2026-2027. Starting a new journey a whole new path to life in Finland, a foreign country were you do not speak or understand the language can be daunting. But don't fret, we are here to help and support you.

Your tutors will be there to help you adapt, improvise and overcome different challenges. Settling and studying in Lahti. They are here to answer your questions especially regarding studies and assist you wherever you might need it. Additionally, SoSA ry (the software engineering student association of LUT University, Lahti campus) is dedicated you helping you along your tumultuous journey and help you gauge into the Finnish student life and culture through organized events and this booklet as well.

My time as a fresher was filled with trials and triumphs because everything was different. I had to keep an abundance of information at hand at all times. Course registrations, immigration processes, moving in and so on. Nevertheless, the most important time for me was meeting so many different people and participating in many events during Orientation Week. You will adjust in no time, good luck, have fun and make tons of memories.

Having said that, I look forward to seeing you all at our Orientation Week events and activities as well as the upcoming events throughout this academic year. I hope you all feel welcome in this little yet growing community of software engineering students in Lahti (Finland next!!) as you get to know more of your peers, students from previous years and the software engineering department. Feel free to come by, say hi, ask me anything or even having a banter filled conversation whenever you see me at campus.

Greeting from the Fresher Captain 2026

First of all, Congratulations!

Getting into LUT is not nothing. There were a lot of applications and not a lot of places, and you're the ones reading this. Take a moment to be pleased with yourselves before the reading lists arrive. I'm Šimon, your fresher captain. Short version: Bratislava to Lahti, software and systems engineering, and a habit of picking up sports that involve going downhill fast.

But this year isn't really about me. Starting university is strange, new country for some of you, new city for most, new everything for all of us at some point. You'll be handed a lot at once: a study plan, a hundred names you won't remember, and a fair amount of dark by November.

My job is to make sure none of that lands on you alone. I'll organize the events, point you at the people worth knowing, and answer the questions that feel too small to ask anyone else. There's no such thing as too small, I asked all of them a year ago. So come say hi. At the events, in the corridor, or by message, whatever is easiest.

See you in September.

What is a Teekkari?

Teekkari is a term used for the university students in the field of technology. There is a lot of culture and traditions associated with Teekkari, so make the most of your stay here and meet the teekkari culture in its many forms. Teekkarius, among other things, is about having fun, community and relaxed attitude. You will find Mukkulankatu's campus area swarming with life and different events: there is partying, singing, activities, music and of course just hanging out with your friends. SoSA organises events which will help you discover the teekkari culture and meet other students, who may become your friends you have connections with long after you left LUT.

Fresher Slip (Passi)

Fresher Slips are a way to motivate the new students participate in the Teekkari culture, and by accumulating them the fresher slips shows their will and worth to become a Teekkari and obtain the Teekkari cap. The end goal is not the points in themselves, but the experiences you got, memories and friends you made along the way. The points are given for a variety of activities, so you can experience different sides of the student life and find out what you like most. You will get your Fresher Slips during the orientation week.
